"Before learning can begin, all learners, no matter their age, must first have their basic needs met. Â Then, they can Bloom."
LEARNING THEORY
Anyone is able to learn. Creating life-long learners takes time, encouragement, and endurance. However, before a learner is able to begin educational advancement, they must have all of their primary needs met. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs provides a guideline of primary necessities each person must have in order to be successful. Once the primary needs of food, shelter, water, security, love, and self-esteem have been met, the learner can then begin to grow as a person.

Instructional designers can contribute to the educational process by creating content that supports the needs of the learners. By creating instructional opportunities that are engaging, encouraging, and forgiving instructional designers create a safe environment for learners of all backgrounds to achieve their goals.
